My first month in Barcelona !

Hi, I’m Charles, the new Frenchie at Estudio Hispanico, I arrived one month ago and will be in Barcelona for the next three months.

To begin this article, I want to thank all Estudio Hispanico’s team to have given me such a warm welcome. It is very nice to work in such a good environment.

My arrival in Barcelona has been great, I spent one night in a youth hostel, the time I needed to find accommodation to live in for the 4 months to come. It was a good experience.

… And I found out it was really easy to find a place to live in some very good parts of Barcelona thanks to the website Craigslist for example.

I finally found an ad on the internet for a flat share with very nice people who come from different places in the world. So now I live with 4 people from Belgium, Hungary, India and Saudi Arabia. Nice mix of cultures!

Let’s get back to Barcelona. This city is probably the best one I have ever lived in. It is very different to France, even if a lot of people speak French.

Barcelona is not very expensive in my opinion, my rent is cheap, and I live just next to plaza Catalunya, one of the most central places of Barcelona. To go out, it is great too, alcohol in the supermarket is cheap, if you want to have a pre drink before going out. The prices in bars are ok too, with a pint between 3€ and 4.50€. But clubs are very expensive. To be honest, I am not so keen on clubbing, so I just went to one, the place was amazing, like in a citadel, with very good house music. Entrance: 20€, with one drink, but still, I found it very expensive. It was far from the center, so we had to take a taxi, 6€ each more, it was a bit painful for my poor wallet!

So after this, I went to some bars with my flat mates, this was more the kind of night out I am used to, and which I really enjoy more.  Moreover, I played in a beer pong tournament in Flaherty’s and in the George Payne, just next to my flat. Every time this is so funny, the competition, the new people you meet (and beat hopefully 😉 ) is always very good.

I have been really lucky to find this accommodation too, my mates have been in Barcelona for two years, so I did not have any problems to continue to have a good social life with a lot of people around me. I was really worried to leave all my life behind me. But thanks to my roomies, I still feel very good, even if I miss my best friends, my family and my girlfriend, I am having really good times in Barcelona.

I’m looking forward to telling you about my other adventures in Barcelona!
